Perspective Taking at the Ball Game

My kid w/ autism needs activities to keep her busy while her brother plays football. At home games, there's a picnic table near the field. In the past, we've taken activities for others to join her, mostly little girls. (The baseball sibs seem to be mostly girls.) A lot of the football sibs are little boys.
We are doing some perspective taking and giving some forethought to what inexpensive items we could buy or what we have at home that we could take to football games to give the sibs something to do together. I love another opportunity for she and I to do this together.

Caterpillars

My homeschooler is participating in a homeschool co-op science class. This week, the students received a habitat for bugs and insects and creepy things. At her brother's football game, she caught a mess of caterpillars and is taking her habitat very seriously, even getting up early to check on them.
My girl kept asking me what the caterpillars are saying, so I added an assignment: Make a list of things a caterpillar held captive in a bug habitat might say. Perspective taking. Love it!

We are still trying to figure out what kind of caterpillar we have in our habitat and what kind of butterfly or moth they may become. Love that, too!

Loss, Illness, and My Poor Neglected Blog

Where have I been?

I was called home not long after the last blog post went up.

I got a call from my sister that our dad was unresponsive and that Mom had called an ambulance. I headed  home. The 2.5 hour drive was longer than usual. When I arrived, Daddy was responsive, awake, and improving. However, over the course of the next three weeks, his condition declined, and late on August 26th, he took his last breath.

I arrived back in town at home with my husband and my children in time for a Labor Day holiday. Sick with a head and chest cold. A week later, I am still coughing, although I am feeling a lot better. And I am behind. Playing catch up. Trying to get back into the swing of things.
