I know a wise and insightful rec therapist. She works with my daughter. She "gets" it, "gets" the relationship piece, in a big way. She's incredibly gentle with my daughter, building safety and trust, never pushing, and never arrives with an agenda for a specific outcome. She comes with anticipation to see what the two of them come up with, together.
This week, we were discussing our frustation with folks who think the goal is always to "get" something from their clients.
She told me, it's not about trying to get something from the child, it's "getting somewhere with her".
I like the way she thinks.
