Boomerang Express is over...

VBS is over (well, almost, 'cept for the kids leading in worship, Sunday). VBS is bittersweet for a mama who has one child who doesn't fit the Lifeway mold.

I chose to let my younger princess stay home with her helper today instead of making her go to VBS.

Being the mom of a child who doesn't fit their mold is difficult.

I feel your pain . . . I think the most fun Pamela had was ripping down the paper off the walls AFTER VBS was over . . .

I have this vision in my head of a CM style VBS. It would probably only attract a handful of kids . . . perhaps it could be for special needs kids . . .

Penny,

I know exactly how you feel. We began to go to a new church almost a year ago now and haven't been to Sunday School yet. It's a large church and we haven't been able to talk to the SS director yet about Joshua's Aspergers. God has something special planned for our unique kids!

Penny,

We are skipping VBS this week, too. Honestly the evening schedule and the alternate location further away don't work very well for our plans this week. Hugs to you for your hard work in VBS! God does see your heart.

I am thankful that I belong to a smaller church that has been absolutely amazing at including my daughter. I went to a Sunday School training session a couple of years ago and they had some classes on how to include children with special needs. They suggested this book that I got and thought was really great. I donated it to my church library and let members know about it. It's called Let All the Children Come to Me by MaLesa Breeding. You can find it here

It offers great ideas for churches and teachers to use to include every child! I just thought you might find it helpful. I'm sorry that all your children didn't get to participate.
